Super Smoothie

This morning we made a Super Smoothie packed full of nutrition.  Here are the organic super foods and local fruits we used, along with some fact and nutritional information, we found interesting.

Moringa Leaf Powder.  Moringa oleifera is a species of tree native from the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India, now cultivated across Southeast Asia, Africa and South America, known as The Tree of Life.  It is packed with a full spectrum of 90 essential nutritional compounds and is the most nutrient-dense, raw, whole foods plant ever studied!  Moringa is known around the world as a rich source of vegetable protein (30%). It contains 18 amino acids, including all 8 essential amino acids, 47 active antioxidants, 36 anti-inflammatories.

Hemp Hearts.  Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats and essential fatty acids. They are also a great protein source and contain high amounts of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and zinc.

Chia Seeds.  Despite their tiny size, chia seeds are very nutritious. They are loaded with fibre, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, Vitamin B3, potassium, Vitamin B1 and B2.

Sunflower Seeds.  Sunflower seeds are a rich source of protein, healthy fats, & good fibre, along with Vitamin E, copper, Vitamin B1, manganese, selenium, phosphorus, magnesium, Vitamin B6 and B3, and folate.

Garden of Life, Raw Meal.  We love using this powder containing 26 raw organic sprouts, seeds, cereal grass juices, organic fruits with spirulina and chlorella greens.  It is an excellent source of 19 vitamins and minerals, 26 grams of protein, 7 grams of fibre and 5 grams of fat.

Maca.  Maca is a type of cruciferous vegetable native to the Andes of Peru which provides a host of important micronutrients, antioxidants, and it has been shown to improve and balance hormone levels, sexual health, energy, mood and memory.

Flaxseed. Flaxseeds are good sources of many nutrients. Their health benefits are mainly due to their high content of omega-3 fats, lignans and fibre.

Papaya.  Papaya contains an enzyme called papain that aids digestion. It is high in fibre and water content promoting a healthy digestive tract.

Mango.  Mango alkalizes the whole body.  It has a high level of fibre, pectin and vitamin C to help lower cholesterol levels.   The antioxidant compounds in mango fruit have been found to protect against colon, breast, leukemia and prostate cancers. These compounds include quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat, as well as the abundance of enzymes.  It promotes clear skin and eye health.  Mangoes are a great source of vitamin E. The generous amounts of vitamin C and vitamin A, plus 25 different kinds of carotenoids keep the immune system healthy and strong.

Banana.  Bananas provide a variety of vitamins and minerals:  Vitamin B6, manganese, Vitamin C , potassium, fibre, protein, magnesium, folate, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin A, & iron.
